Today was the day!!

So, a few weeks ago, our instructors taught us the differences in needle and syringe sizes and what type of injection they are used for. We also learned to hold the syringe like you would when you are throwing a dart and that is the correct way to administer an injection. We, then, were able to take home a practice injection kit to inject saline into an orange.

Well, today was the day that I actually gave another human being an injection (once again with saline). First, we started off with getting an insulin injection ready which we did not give to each other. Hopefully, you all understand why. Then, we had to get a subq injection ready. "subq" means subcutaneous, so it is basically a shot in the fat of your body. (I think I am going to start saying that I really need to lose a bit of subq around my belly!) We took turns giving those in each other's arms. We then got IM injections ready. "IM" means intramuscular, so basically in muscle. We got to lay down and inject those into each other's hip areas (more specifically, the ventrogluteal site). It isn't as bad as it sounds. Really, the needle itself going in isn't the bad part. It is usually what is being administered that actually hurts. Since it was just saline, it didn't hurt at all.

I bet that your ventrogluteal site subq really made you look like a sexy nurse!

Way to go. You and Daesha can compare stories. She is getting pretty good at giving shots.

Where do you want to work (in a hospital or doctor's office)?

Did you know that if you use an insulin pen you have to do it at an angle?

Did you know if needle is dull it is harder to stick it in and it hurts more?

How many shots have you given? I do at least 4 a day, sometimes 5.
