Mother/Baby Rotation

I had my mother/baby rotation January 22,28,29 and February 3. This has been my favorite rotation so far. I think it is just because I feel so at home there. I got to see a delivery and liked it much better than being the one on the table. I got to see a C-section. Absolutely fascinating! I just really like being with the babies and their moms. It is a very different place than the rest of the hospital. With every mom, you either have 1 or 2 babies to also take care of. The highlight to the end of my rotation was getting to sneak into the labor room of one of my former young women. Unfortunately, I was assigned to the moms who had already delivered that day but I got to watch her progress on the computer all day. Then, when I was done, I got to slip into her room. What a wonderful thing having a baby is!

Really I think the worst part of the rotation was that we had to watch some teaching videos on how to place a catheter. I have not had to do one yet, but have been there when someone had one done. This didn't gross me out at all. The videos really grossed me out! I think because I just can't imagine why anyone would volunteer to have it done without needing it done. No thank you.

That will be me in 12 more weeks. Was the C-section horrifying? You'll have to give me more details sometime.

When I was going to school to be an OR tech, I saw a total stranger have a C-section and it made me cry just to see the miracle of a baby being born. It's kind of weird to me because I didn't cry when either one of my own kids were born, probably because I didn't have drugs (not by my choice)and I was out of my mind with pain.
