1 Month of Nursing School

Well, this week was a crazy one. I had to pass off that I was competent taking blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and respiration rate, and a full head to toe assessment which involved listening to the 4 chambers of the heart, the lobes of the lungs, bowels sounds, etc. If you have ever had a check up, you know what a head to toe assessment is. If it sounds like a lot to learn, it kind of is, but it is way fun! The highlight for me was taking my "patient's" blood pressure and getting 115/70 and then my instructor saying "OK". I asked her if that was close to what she got, and she said, "I got 114/70". I was so happy! When I got my paper back, she had writtten "good" in the blood pressure section. I also had to take a test on wounds, infections, muscle or bone problems, and urinary or GI problems. Then, last a medical abbreviations quiz. So far, things are going well with school. I really enjoy it.

This coming up week, I need to take a drug calculations test, take another test on heart conditions and legal issues in nursing, do a research paper, do a safety assessment on my house, finish up my homework on taking blood pressures, and practice giving an orange injections. Poor orange!

Those "activities" sound like so much fun! As I was reading I wanted you to tell me all about that stuff. We really need to get together, I miss you. I agree with Becca, YOU ARE AMAZING!

PS Exactly WHEN did your life slow down?(from Becca's blog) Because this definitely doesn't sound like a slow life to me and you're always still going a million miles an hour, your kids can just help keep up with that speed now :)
