My last two clinicals have been at the AF Hospital. The first Monday, I was put on the Med/Surg floor. This is where people are sent when they are either too sick to be at home or sent to after surgery. The hospital is definitely a whole new ballgame. I learned how to take a blood pressure with a machine. Why did they teach us how to do it the "old" way? I basically was just following the nurse around that day and learned about the craziness of charting everything on the computer.
The second day, I was sent to TCC (Transitional Care Center). This is where they send the people from Med/Surg that can't go home, more of a rehabilition place. We were really taught well here. They assigned us to one person that we gave medication to, gave meals to, and took care of. My patient happened to have diabetes so I had to do carb counting for her insulin and administer her insulin (among other things). I also was allowed to administer medication through her IV port and learned how to do piggy-back antibiotics on the IV. And there was that same crazy computer work. It is a good thing that I feel comfortable with computers.

I was so happy to see a post today--I look for them every day and I am always sad when I don't see something new. No pressure though, I know that you barely have enough time to squeeze in the few posts that you can actually get around to. I miss you!
Now you can help Daesha with her carb counting and insulin when you see her next. I am sure she would love to talk to you about it. She is getting pretty good.
Insulin, needles, IVs Oh MY! Sounds like you're learning/practicing some fun skills and doing great. Thanks for the update . . . you've been even better than me at posting LOL!
yeah... what a terrible smell. I know what a GI Bleed smells like because we get quite a few in the ER. Who would have thought that we get to see some interesting stuff? I'm so glad that I don't get to see as much as you... ;P
