Last Clinical as a First Semester Nursing Student

On November 26, I had my last clinical. 6 of us were assigned to the Med/Surg floor that day, but due to not enough patients, they asked for only 3. Our nursing instructor picked 3 of us and off we went for another assignment. Well, it ended up being in the ICU. WOW! What an experience! My nurse was assigned 2 patients that day. One had a GI bleed. He had a bleeding ulcer that had to be cauterized and needed 5 pints of blood. I will never forget this one since the smell coming from a GI bleed is a nasty smell. The other patient had multiple organ failure. It was actually quite a sad thing for me. His wife wasn't ready to let him go. I can't help but put myself in the other person's shoes and wonder how they are feeling. You know me. I actually teared up thinking about it right there in the room and made myself stop thinking about it. I really learned alot that day.
