Wednesday was my first day of lecture which will be how it is for the rest of the semester. We meet at 8 am and leave at 1 pm. Seriously, I don't think the human brain can stay focused for that long. It is hard to do but it is only this semester, right?
I then had a couple of days in lab. They have a mannequin that hooks up to a computer. He breathes, has a pulse, a heart beat, bowel sounds, etc. You tell the computer what you want those to be like and that is how it responds. Well, we were put in groups of 2 and had to pick an illness and make the "man" have symptoms and such so that another group could go through the process of helping a patient and learning what needed to be done in those situations. My partner and I picked our "man" to have a stroke. We were chosen to care for a patient that had pneumonia along with an appendectomy. I felt like I had lucked out because I have had both of those. It still feels like quite an intimidating experience even though it was just a simulation. One day I know that I will comfortable and confident taking care of someone.
