I know all you parents out there will know exactly what I'm talking about. Think about having a sick child and as night time approaches, they just seem to get sicker and sicker. Their breathing worsens, their fever worsens, they just plain feel worse....

Well, on the other end of that, as those children feel worse and worse, the night shift in pediatrics gets busier and busier. We have so many children admitted during the night that it is crazy! I'm not sure about adult floors since I've never worked the night shift there, but night seems to be a very busy time for us.
Thank goodness it is busy at night! Otherwise, I would be afraid of falling asleep. Instead, I am on my feet almost the whole night long.

Who would have thought that nights are actually busy? Of course it is! Tell Jacob "Happy Birthday" from us!
That makes perfect sense to me...parent's always put it off to see if kids get better, then in the middle of the night when everyone is sleep deprived you'll do anything to solve the problem!
I think you've got a good point there! I think babies come at night for the very same reason!! Thank heavens! :) It's only the slow nights when I pull out the mt.Dew and the toothpicks to hold the eyeballs up! :) I feel your pain! I'm sure you'll agree,it's worth it.
Nights on Peds are in one word a nightmare! It's always worse! There is no chance for rest or sleep with all the worry and fear that creeps up, not to mention the attentive yellow gowned nurses!!! (Who we adore!)
