House projects

This project was actually started in January. From the time we moved into this house, we have wanted to open up the entry way by removing this wall that opens up into the stairway going downstairs. It turned out to be more of a project than I ever dreamed.

Here is how it looked with the wall.

Here it is with the wall torn down...just an open hole.

Along with the new floor, my dad put a banister in where the wall used to be. It still needs to be stained and the wall behind it painted, but I wanted to post it because I think it looks awesome! I think my dad is such a talented guy! He rocks! He also hung the decorations on the wall for me.
You can't see it but those posts on the ends are extremely well-planted into the floor. My dad opened up the floor and attached them to the floor joists so that they won't wobble around. He said that he just wanted to make sure that they were around in a year. I'm pretty sure they will be around for alot longer than that. :)

These projects actually were a really special time for me. I got to spend more time with my dad than I have in quite a long time. It was fun getting to go to Home Depot and Lowe's with him. I like watching him think things through before he even touches anything. He is such a perfectionist and worry-wart but that's alright with me. My house gets to look better because of it.
