Pediatric Unit

Other than the foot coverings, this has been my regular appearance every night from 6 pm-6 am. Most of the children on the Pediatrics Unit right now have RSV. Since RSV is spread with droplets of bodily fluid, we have to wear these each time we enter their room. We then remove them on our way out.

Now, imagine you have four patients that you have to stand outside their door and don this before entering and remove it upon departing. A different set for each time you enter for each patient.

Not only does this take forever, but by about 3:30 am your fingers no longer seem capable of tying the ties in the back of the isolation gown.

I also don't like that the children can't see my whole face. They can't see me smiling. The charge nurse told some parents last night that if sometime in the future their child has nightmares about aliens wearing yellow and only having eyes, then they should tell them about us.

As much of a hassle that it is, I would never not do this. I have seen first hand what RSV can do to a small child and would never want that to happen to someone because I was too lazy to put on this outfit. I have 3 out of my 8 times done in the Pediatrics unit. I can't even count the number of times already that I've put this on, but I can tell you....it won't be the last!!!

We took Anna to the doctor today and they said she is border-line RSV. Any tips to keep her from getting it all the way?

Mase was terrified when they would walk in the room with the yellow! It was so great when that aweful isolation sign came down!
